Theodore Edmund "Ted" Kapus of Clarksville, VA passed away on Friday, January 23rd, 2026, at the age of 94. He was born on Wednesday, July 8th, 1931, in Jersey City, New Jersey, Ted was the beloved son of the late Edmund Kapus and Marie Kuhn Kapus. He is survived by his wife, Marilyn Linn Wilbourne Kapus.
Ted was a dedicated charter member and deacon of New Horizon's Baptist Church in Oxford, NC and made it a priority to be in attendance whenever he could. Not only did he practice his ministry through church, he lived it in life as well through his volunteer work at Maria Parham Hospital in Henderson, NC for over 20 years.
Ted was a man of extraordinary intellect and unwavering dedication. He held two Master's degrees, one in Nuclear Engineering and another in Public Administration, in addition to a law degree. His passion for knowledge and innovation was reflected in his distinguished career as the Director of Energy Research for the U.S. Government. He dedicated his life to advancing energy solutions, always with an eye toward a brighter future. Ted would use his extensive education to further the passions of a younger generation, tutoring for many years with Kaplan; always giving back to his community.
A proud veteran, Ted served his country with honor and bravery in the United States Army during the Korean War as part of the 17th Airborne Division. His military service was a source of pride not only for Ted but also for his family and friends. Outside of his professional achievements, Ted was an avid world traveler who embraced diverse cultures and experiences. It may come as surprise to some to learn that Ted was a ballroom dance instructor with Arthur Murray Dance Studio in New York City. Known for his quick wit and warm, fuzzy demeanor, he had a unique ability to connect with others and leave a lasting impression on those fortunate enough to have crossed his path.
Ted is survived by his wife, Linn; son, Kliff Kapus (Renee) of Onalaska WI; and grandsons, Keaton, Kolton and Kincaid.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by 2 sisters, Rose and Betty.
