Spencer Watts Lyon

May 18, 1950 — Sep 3, 2026

Spencer Watts Lyon Sr., 76, of Granville County, passed away peacefully on September 3, 2026.

Watts was born on May 18, 1950, at Granville Hospital to the late Otho DeVann Lyon II and Carrie Marjorie Green Lyon.

He retired from the N.C. State cattle farm in Butner, but his true passion was life on his family farm in Hester. There, he spent the better part of his life farming, hunting, and raising his family. In his younger days, with his son Spencer as his little shadow, Watts loved hunting, listening to the hounds run, and training his champion water race dogs.

He is survived by his children, Donna Carol (Steve) and Spencer Watts II (Kristy); his grandchildren, Morgan McFalls (Gee), Elizabeth Dean (Tanner), Jacob Lyon, Jenna Overby, and Katelyn Lyon; and his great-granddaughter, Madelyn Dean. He also leaves behind a special niece and nephew, Crystal and Ron Humphries; his sister, Marjorie Short (Jimmy); his best friend and brother-in-law, Ronald "Tubby" Watson; and many beloved nieces, nephews, and special cousins, including his family at Green Hill Farms.

Along with his parents, Watts was preceded in death by his older brother, Otho D. Lyon III.

A private celebration of life will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Granville County Animal Shelter or the Lake Country SPCA of Clarksville, VA.
