Robert Engle, a beloved father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on October 4, 2026, at Heritage Hall nursing home due to natural causes. Born on August 19, 1931, in Johnson City, NY, Robert was the cherished son of Charles F. and Helen M. Engle, who preceded him. He was also preceded by his first wife, Katherine K. Baehr, his second wife, Wanda Swisher Engle, and his stepson, Raymond C. Beattie.

Robert, affectionately known as Bob, is survived by his loving daughter, Pamela Engle Watts, and his devoted son, Rick Lee Engle. He leaves behind his stepchildren, Robert Baehr, Edward Baehr, and Victoria Walker, who were all dear to him. His legacy continues in his grandchildren, Nick Watts, Jesse Watts, Israel Adam Beattie, and Jeremy M. Beattie. Bob's life was enriched by the companionship of his close friend and traveling partner, Ruby Martin, who shared many adventures with him.

After graduating from State College High School in 1950, Bob attended Penn State University, nurturing a lifelong loyalty to the Penn State Lions. His journey then led him to serve his country with pride in the U.S. Army, stationed at Ft. Bragg, NC, as an Artillery Survey Specialist.

Bob's professional life was marked by dedication and versatility. He worked at Rochester Products in Rochester, NY, and later at Delco-Remy and 3M-Dynacolor Corporation, which took him to Brockport, NY, Dallas, Texas, and Alexandria, Va. Upon retiring, Bob settled in Crewe, Va., and continued to contribute to his community through various roles at Bishop Nissan, WSVS, WKLV radio stations, Dowdy Furniture Co., and Walmart.

A man of faith, Bob was an active member of the Crewe Baptist Church and later joined the Church of the Nazarene, where he found joy in singing in both choirs. His love for God and family was matched by his affection for dogs, cats, the New York Yankees, and his unique collection of elephants and circus memorabilia.

The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Heritage Hall for the compassionate care provided to Bob. In lieu of flowers, donations in Bob's memory can be made to the Southside Virginia S.P.C.A. in Meherrin, Va., or the Church of the Nazarene Building Fund in Crewe, Va.

Bob Engle's life was a testament to love, service, and joy. He will be profoundly missed and fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
