Michael Wayne Satterfield

Michael Wayne Satterfield, affectionately known as "Cookie Monster," a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 12th, 2026, at the age of 63. Born on February 1st, 1963, Michael was a lifelong resident of Virgilina, Virginia, where he cultivated deep roots in the community and touched the lives of many.

Michael dedicated over 40 years of his life to the logging industry, where he found immense joy and fulfillment in his work. Whether he was running the tree cutter or wielding his trusty chainsaw, his passion for the woods was evident to all who knew him. Outside of his professional life, Michael had a deep affection for fishing and enjoyed the simple pleasures of nature, such as watching squirrels play in his yard. His beloved dog, Big Boy, was his constant companion and best friend.

Michael was known for his welcoming nature—never meeting a stranger—and his love for making people smile. A man with a sweet tooth, he savored every piece of cake and other desserts that came his way. His warm spirit and infectious smile made a lasting impression on everyone he encountered.

Left to cherish his memory is his devoted wife of 25 years, Becky Satterfield. He is also survived by his children, Corey Satterfield, Anthony Hull (Jessica), Joshua Satterfield, and Tara Satterfield; his cherished granddaughter, Naomi Satterfield; and his sister, Norma Jean Henderson (Stover). Michael was a proud uncle to James Henderson (Ann Nichole), Cody Henderson (Victoria), and Angela Satterfield, and a beloved great-uncle to numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, William Thomas Satterfield Sr., his mother, Dorothy Epps Satterfield Kinder and his brother, William Thomas Satterfield Jr.

A memorial service to celebrate Michael’s life will be held on Saturday, August 15th, at 2 PM at the TJM Community Center in Cluster Springs, VA. Family and friends are invited to gather and remember the wonderful man who filled their lives with laughter and love.

Arrangements are being handled by the Cremation Society of Virginia.
