Linda Carole Adams, 77, of 317 College Avenue, Danville, Virginia died peacefully on February 28, 2026, with family by her side, at Brookdale Danville Piedmont Senior Living, following a decline in health over the last year.
Born October 3,1948 in Danville, Virginia, Linda was the daughter of the late Harry Brouis Adams and Gladys Miller Adams. She was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include nephew R. Peyton Mahaffey (Libby) of Oak Hill, VA; great nephew Thomas Peyton Mahaffey (Alexa) of Arlington VA; and great niece Megan Mahaffey Thompson (Cord) of Denver CO. Linda was predeceased by her parents, long-time companion Henry (Hank) Pinekenstein, sister Frances Adams Mahaffey, niece Elizabeth Ann (Beth) Mahaffey, and nephew Michael David Mahaffey, all of Danville, VA.
Linda was a graduate of George Washington High School and The Danville Community College Nursing Program. Her love of animals, dogs and cats in particular, was legendary. She rescued and spoiled countless strays and abandoned creatures throughout her life, and delighted in spoiling the dogs and cats of her neighbors, each of whom considered Linda’s house a second home. Linda also loved music and had an encyclopedic knowledge of songs, records (including their “B”sides), and artists. She was an avid Elvis and Mickey Mouse fan, enjoying visits to Memphis and Orlando with friends and family, and acquiring collectibles and cherished memorabilia throughout her life. Her career as a nurse at Twin Lakes Center in Burlington NC was bracketed by loyal bookkeeping work for George Shields and his various real estate investments and companies, and later after his passing, for Leah Shields, and daughter Elizabeth Shields Ateyah.
At Linda’s request, there will be no formal funeral or memorial service. Memorials in her memory may be made to the Danville Area Humane Society, Route 58 East, Danville, Virginia. Arrangements are being handled by Cremation Society of Virginia, Clarksville, Virginia. Condolences are welcome and may be expressed online at https://www.cremationofvirginia.com/. The family anticipates that after the passage of time, an appropriate Celebration of Life may be arranged in a fashion that Linda would appreciate—the location and date are TBD.
